Electrical Engineer,Electrician - Benefits of Control Systems

Electrical engineers are responsible for electricity related jobs. An electrician does low level work. Individuals with a formal qualification in electrical engineering are recruited in companies that manufacture control systems, offer instrumentation and automation solutions. A power systems engineer is a specialized electrical engineer who is expert in power systems.

A lighting control system is usually maintained by an electrical engineer. It controls electric lighting and its associated devices. It can be part of both private and public lighting solution. They are utilized for aesthetic, working and security illumination purposes. The term includes interior, exterior and landscape lighting. A lighting control system can be a part of sustainable architecture. It can also be used as component of lighting design for green building programs. This program promotes energy conservation techniques.

The lighting control system made by an electrical engineer comes with an embedded processor. Modern lighting control systems include one or more portable or mounted keypad or touchscreen control interfaces. Mobile phone operation is supported. These controls permit users the ability to remotely toggle power to groups of lights or an individual light. Control systems can operate dimmers and pre-program space lighting levels.

Lighting control systems have major advantages over conventional individual switching. They can control any light or a cluster of lights or all lights in a building from a single user interface device. The control can be in any location. Such control over multiple sources of light results in the creation of complex light scenes. A room may have multiple lighting scenes. Each lighting scene is suitable for different activities that take place in the room. Different lights can create change in the ambient mood. This is made possible by a single press of a button. Lighting control systems are widely used in landscape design in the form of landscape lighting. Control systems also direct motorized gates, water spa heating and fountain pumps to name a few. Benefits of such a technology include reduction in consumption of energy and costs in power by a more efficient use of energy and longer bulb life. The carbon footprint of the civil structure also becomes lower.

An electrical engineer have multiple choices of lighting control systems like chronological time, astronomical time, outdoor or room space occupancy, alarm conditions, events and program logic.

Chronological time is that particular time of day used by pre-set timers. The list of astronomical times include sunrise, sunset, a particular day of week or days in a month or year. Occupancy of the room can be determined with RFID tags or motion detectors and can be a part of energy conservation or security programs. Use of artificial lighting can be reduced by automatically dimming and switching electrical lights in response to daylighting levels. Mobile phones can be used to operate lights.

The electrical engineer can use lighting control systems for architectural lighting purposes like control of lights in a theatre. This includes rehearsal lighting, work lights as well as lobby lighting. Control stations can take the form of LCD touchscreen consoles.
