Google Drive leaks suggest 5GB free storage, in-app document editing

Google Drive leaks suggest 5GB free storage, in-app document editing
Mountain View has been leaking Google Drive details like a glacial trickle, but we still have no firm notion of how much free cloud storage it'll bring or just how deeply it'll be integrated with other services. There have been rumors of a Dropbox-like 2GB limit, but now a screenshot purporting to show the beta version's main welcome page points to a healthy 5GB instead. Moreover, Google's Support portal mentions that the Drive app for Android will have document-editing capabilities, which brings us back to the question of whether this is a whole new service, or an add-on to Google Docs or indeed a complete re-branding of Google's documents platform. Regardless, calling it 'Drive' still makes it sound like sat nav.

Extreme weather threatens rich ecosystems

ScienceDaily (Mar. 30, 2012) ? Extreme weather such as hurricanes, torrential downpours and droughts will become more frequent in pace with global warming. Consequently, this increases the risk for species extinction, especially in bio diverse ecosystems such as coral reefs and tropical rainforests.

Human impact means that flora and fauna become extinct at a rate 100?1000 times higher than normal. Climate change has been deemed as one of the main causes of species depletion.

A research team in theoretical biology at Link?ping University has, through the use of mathematical modelling and simulation, studied how the dynamics of different types of ecosystems may be affected by significant environment fluctuations.

Linda Kaneryd, doctoral student and lead author of a study recently published in the journal, Ecology and Evolution, says the results were surprising.

?Several previous studies of food web structures have suggested that species-rich ecosystems are often more robust than species-poor ecosystems. However at the onset of increased environmental fluctuations, such as extreme weather, we see that extreme species-rich ecosystems are the most vulnerable and this entails a greater risk for a so-called cascading extinction.?

In a rainforest or on coral reef there are a wide variety of species of primary producers such as green plants and algae. Since they are competitors, relatively few individuals of the same species exist, subjecting them to a greater risk of extinction should external conditions change. This could result in a depletion of food sources for a species of herbivores that, in turn, affects a predator at the top of the food chain. Biologists call this transformation a cascading extinction.

The opposite would apply to an ecosystem whereby few species exist in large numbers and animal species are adaptable generalists.

The researchers create their model food webs following on from their experiences with real ecosystems; what eats what, the composition of the species' life cycles, and how they interact with others. In this study, external conditions are represented as an increasing and unpredictable variation.

?The model we worked with is quite typical. The next step is to introduce actual, detailed climatic data,? informs Bo Ebenman, Professor of Theoretical Biology who supervised Linda Kaneryds thesis.

Good Personal Finance Habits

You know you rock at managing your money. LearnVest tells you what you're doing right.

We know, we know ? at LearnVest, we tell you a lot of things you should do, like:

  • Save for retirement
  • Pay off any debt you have
  • Reevaluate your budget (because you already have a budget, right?)
  • Stress out about all the aforementioned to-dos

We tell you because they?re all good for you, financially speaking (well, all but that last one).

But sometimes, with all the worrying we do, it?s easy to forget to take a time-out and give ourselves a pat on the back. And we bet there are already a lot of things you?re doing exactly right with your money.

Read on to find out how many of these 10 excellent financial habits you?ve already adopted, then sit back, and feel superproud of yourself.

You Always Shop on Sale

According to industry research, 62 percent of US consumers say they rarely pay full price for clothing. So it sounds like you already know the art of scoring the best deal possible. (Just don?t let yourself get suckered in by the secret ways stores seduce us into buying.) Keep up the good work!

Read on for more.

You?re Creative About Cutting Your Costs

And we know this one is true! Time after time, LearnVest members have told us stories about their innovative ways to save, from clipping coupons to DIYing just about everything. You understand the value of a dollar . . . and get that even nickels can add up. For a creative way to save your spare change, check out our $5 jar idea. And for crafty do-it-yourself tips for everything from homemade sorbet to hand-mixed hair conditioner, check this out.

You?re Resilient

In one study, people were grouped into ?resilient? and ?overwhelmed? personalities: when faced with adversity, the overwhelmed group felt like the situation ganged up on them, and there was nothing to be done. When faced with similar circumstances, the resilient group?s instinct was to pick back up and start over. Upon examining these traits from an emotional perspective, researchers found that those who were resilient had higher levels of wealth.

You Give a Damn

In the same study of personality traits and wealth, people who are too distracted to even deal with their finances were statistically shown to do a worse job of managing their money (which is pretty intuitive). For that reason, the fact that you?re on LearnVest and reading this story means that you care about your financial future, and that simple caring puts you ahead of the curve.

You Have a Budget

Whether or not you occasionally give in to impulse buying, you?re ahead of the game by simply having a budget. Knowing how much you have to spend each month, and how much your basic expenses cost, is the single best way to not go overboard. Your budget could take the form of a basic ledger . . . or a custom breakdown courtesy of the LearnVest My Money Center, which pulls in data from all of your accounts to show your spending, saving, and investments in one place.

You Don?t Hide From the Future

Since the recession, 80 percent of people are showing more caution with their finances than they used to, including saving more and investing for retirement. That's good news, because studies have shown that people who have backup plans ? which can be as simple as building up your fund ? tend to have a higher degree of wealth in general.

You Go to the Gym

In one study, women who were fit (OK, let?s say it: thin) made as much as $16,000 more per year than the norm. But before you go on a flash diet, know that you don?t need to be supermodel skinny to reap these financial rewards! Simply working out may do the trick: runners and serious athletes are better money managers because they cultivate mental traits that help them maintain focus. For some tips on cultivating those mental traits without being a total gym rat, check this out.

You?re Confident in Yourself

Those who aren't swayed by the crowd are better at taking control of their finances. That's because friends and family can often steer you astray. In fact, they can affect everything from whether you buy that sweater you don't really need (meet the Enabler ? and seven other types of friends who are bad for your finances) to whether you make a bad investment. See how the concept of "social proof" can actively hurt your portfolio.

You Save Your Change

You understand that little things add up over time, and every day you make money decisions that will help you in the long run. For example, instead of letting your change pile up, you're actually putting it somewhere you won?t lose it ? and that adds up. Collecting just 25 cents a day would add up to nearly $100 after a year!

You Pay Your Bills on Time

One of the most basic ? and most powerful ? ways to stay on top of your spending is to simply pay all your bills on time (and in full, whenever possible). Avoiding just a few bills now and again will cost you in interest payments. And that doesn?t even mention the hit your credit score will take for missing payments. For a sense of just how important your credit score is, and how much money you can save by having a good one, play with our interactive tool. For ways to raise your credit score right now, read this.

The Rock Will 'Crap Himself' At WrestleMania, John Cena Warns

'We're gonna see who the greatest of all time is,' Cena tells MTV News of Sunday's WM 28.
By Rob Markman, with additional reporting by Josh Horowitz

With the anticipation for WrestleMania XXVIII coming to a boil, you kind of get the feeling that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and John Cena don't really like each other. Seriously, how would you feel if the Rock called you a girl?

"He literally uses the same material over and over and over again and convinces people that it's still funny," Cena told MTV News recently, brushing the insult aside.

The two towering masses of muscle will face off on April 1 at the Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, during the main event for the 28th edition of the WWE's annual WrestleMania throwdown. But the tension between the two has been building for years. In a February interview with MTV News, the Rock got personal.

"Here's the thing about John Cena: He's such a good girl, really good woman," Johnson joked. "At the end of the day, he knocked on my door, I'm gonna answer it. I've got a size-15 boot, and it's gonna go right up his stink. Or his lady parts — either one."

Cena said he's heard it all before. This Sunday, he promised, things will get serious for his opponent. "If I have lady parts, that's OK, but you're gonna pee and crap yourself at the same time when you realize you're in the ring with a professional," he said sternly.

The 6'1," 251 lb. hulk has been itching to fight the wrestler-turned-actor for seven years and now that he has his chance he doesn't plan to waste it.

"I got you man," Cena warned "The Tooth Fairy" star. "I know things about you that you don't even know about yourself," he said, addressing the Rock, who's taking a short break from Hollywood to return to the ring, directly. "April 1, we're gonna see who the greatest of all time is."

Who do you think will win the main event at WrestleMania XXVIII? Tell us in the comments!

Obama Administration Places $200 Million Bet On Big Data

I'm a hard science/computer science guy who's livelihood is working on various NIH/NSF projects. A common thread talking to other scientists the past few years has been the theme that the tools for data analysis have not kept pace with the tools for data acquisition. Companies like National Instruments sell sub-$1000 USB DAQ boards with resolution and bandwidth that would make a scientist from the early 1990's weep for joy. But most data analysis is done the same way it's been done since that same era: with a desktop application working with discrete files, and maybe some ad-hoc scripts. (Only now the scripts are Python instead of C...)

The funny thing is, most researchers haven't yet wrapped their brains around the notion of offloading data onto cloud computing solutions like Amazon AWS. I was at an AWS presentation a couple months ago, and the university's office of research gave an intro talking about their new supercomputer that has 2000 cores, only to get upstaged 10 minutes later when the Amazon guys introduced their 17000 core virtual supercomputer (#42 on the top 500 list, IIRC). There's a lot of untapped potential right now for using that infrastructure to crunch big data.

Also try this pertaining to evening amusement is a concept dinner at World The show biz industry. Scripting Excellence in Higher Education | Beyond the Walls ...

In times when academic excellence and global competence have acquired behemoth importance it behooves to educate the academics about the crucial role assessment and accreditation play in quality assurance in higher education. Also in the pipeline is the move to make accreditation mandatory for all the institutions. Undoubtedly accreditation plays a phenomenal role.

Keeping in sync with the same Welingkar hosted a daylong conference on ?Assessment and Accreditation: Future Possibilities and Challenges. ? In its efforts, it was joined by the All India Council for Technical Education and Directorate of Technical Education. The Conference witnessed leading policy makers, academics and corporates discussing the various issues regarding accreditation and how these would be fine tuned further to render the Indian higher educational system one of the best.

Shri Rajesh Tope, Minister for Education (Maharashtra), Shri.S.S.Mantha, Chairman- AICTE, Dr?? H.A.Ranganath, Director- NAAC were a few of the policymakers who participated in the conference and shared their thought process and incisive insight into some of the policies afoot. From the academia, those present included eminent speakers like the IT marvel Dr F C Kohli, management guru Dr Y K Bhushan, Dr Bhushan Patwardhan- Vice Chancellor of Symbiosis International University, Dr M.R.Rao, dean emeritus ?ISB and many more.

WeSchool, under Dr Uday Salunkhe, Group Director, WeSchool had taken up the initiative, bringing together policymakers, academics and the industry reps on one platform. The three not only brainstormed the various aspects of accreditation but also how the current procedures can be fine-tuned to make quality -adherence a 24/7/365 phenomenon. The conference also sensitized the audience about the mandatory nature of accreditation that it was soon to acquire and the implications of the same.

Dr Uday Salunkhe dwelling on the importance of assessment said it is an effective means of quality assurance in higher education; it provides a common frame of reference and credible information to students and all others including recruiters, faculty and all who have stakes in quality education.? In the times of intense globalization it becomes all the more important that we educate the generation next in a way that ensures their global competence and making accreditation mandatory for all the institutions is a step towards the same.

Dr SS Mantha, elaborating on the importance of vocational education said AICTE will take steps to ensure quality vocational education focusing on skill requirements to ensure sustainable sources of income for marginalized youth. The Council will also support the schools of vocational education. This would also help content building for various sectors based on national vocational education curriculum framework, developing teaching methodologies and pedagogy, training the trainers, methodology for skill assessment and skill accreditation, creation of best practices document in vocational education.

H.A. Ranganath, Director- NAAC in his interactions laid more stress on internal evaluation than external evaluation. Talking of the research carried out in an institution, the criterion will extend to parameters like the number of research papers published in international journals, their citation index in peer journals, impact factor of the journal, h-index and subject index and many more. Also according to him for the extension activities of the universities/institutes, NAAC will look at the social /neighbourhood impact of the institute. Issues like carbon credits, water-harvesting and similar ecological steps will also be taken into account.

The seminar also discussed the role and functions of the National Accreditation Regulatory Authority as mentioned in the recently tabled Bill in the Parliament and how it is bound to throw the door open to private agencies in accreditation. Issues like international accreditation and consequent branding of an institution also were given considerable time and thought. Experts from the respective domains? shared the ?expectations of industry with respect to the process and procedures of accreditation.

Amazon's Bezos finds Apollo 11 rockets in ocean, contemplates shipping options
Ya' know, there's nothing like a little rocket hunting to save oneself from the doldrums of generating billions of dollars in revenue in the private sector. At least that appears to be the case for Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos, who spearheaded an ocean expedition to find the F-1 rockets used in the Apollo 11 mission. Forget newer stuff like the GENIE, Vega and Slytherin's SuperDraco -- the classic F-1 is still the rocket that ignites Bezos' proverbial liquid fuel. Having found his prize resting 14,000 feet below the surface via deep sea sonar, Bezos' team is now trying to recover at least one of the rockets. Bezos says NASA still retains ownership of the F-1s but he's hoping the agency will allow one of them to be displayed at the Museum of Flight in Amazon's home turf of Seattle if both are successfully retrieved. No word on whether the rockets will be delivered via Super Saver Shipping.

Freescale intros Vybrid controller line, weds ARM A5 and M4 cores for an asymmetrical bang

ImageMaking good on its word, Freescale's line of Vybrid controllers is now ready for prime time multiprocessing. That asymmetrical setup, announced last October, takes the high / low approach we've seen gradually crop up in computing, pairing an ARM Cortex A5 and Cortex M4 in uneven, albeit harmonious CPU matrimony. The company's not targeting this new platform at consumers, though, as that market's already being served by the likes of NVIDIA's Tegra 3. No, this controller arrangement's headed directly for the industrial sector, where medical, point-of-sale and smart energy equipment can benefit from the cores' decreased power demands and ability for real-time control. Eager to dig deeper into this silicon platform? Then feel free to parse through the rest of the company's jargon-y release after the break.

Ownership: Love's Opposite | SatisfyingRelationships

While the diversity in the couples I work with is immense, one complaint rings true: individuals who describe themselves as loving, trusting and caring complain that their relationships have become strained and devoid of authenticity.

Why is it that good relationships so often fade for couples who claim to love each other as much as ever? Can we want more out of a committed relationship than what we already have?? Why does the transition from being single to being married deliver such a devastating blow to relationships? Ever ask yourself what happened to the person I decided to marry?

These are some of the questions that occupied my mind when I set out to write about the reality of ownership. I wanted to look at the obstacles and anxieties people experience when their quest for security clashes with their own pursuit of long term happiness.

Cultural tradition and the desire to possess another (a misguided sense of ownership of your partner), are at the root of some people?s longing to enter into a committed relationship. Marriage is an integral part of our Houston culture. Sobering statistics show marriages failing at nearly fifty percent, and with the multitude of unhappy marriages in existence, why do people still want to get married so badly? In short, do we marry so we can own the other person?

Ownership is not a metaphor for a satisfying relationship, the topic of ownership speaks its own crazy language. While love and ownership do relate, they also conflict. Love thrives in an atmosphere of reciprocity and benevolence, while ownership needs selfishness, arrogance and narcissism to exist. If you feel that your relationship has become rigid, narrow, and uncomfortable, you will not be able to nurture love, comfort, or stability that you once thought would be a part of your daily life.

After 6 years of studying and countless hours collaborating with renowned psychiatrists and mental health clinicians, I wonder whatever happened to the idea or concept of a ?happy? marriage. Some spouses view marital satisfaction as being able to do what they want, when they want without regard for the other?s comfort. Marriage, unfortunately, can be a mechanism to facilitate the removal of individual choices within relationships. Individual choices disappear when the concept of marriage equates to?ownership. When a marriage becomes so mechanical that one person feels like they have lost their right to authenticity, the submissive one?s fear reduces them to possession status, yes, like the car in the driveway. Freedom to decide what is right or wrong, legitimate or illegitimate is not something that people struggle with when choosing their significant other. I am wondering if you know anyone that has abandoned themselves enough to live in a relationship that has no room for fun or freedom to make choices. A person?s freedom to choose should never be forfeited or abandoned by threats, fear or by forced conformity.

Should a spouse defame themselves by bowing to the will of their significant other out of fear of emotional or financial loss? Individuals who endorse ownership of their partners often make the vast majority of decisions over everything from minor financial to other household matters. My idea of ownership proposes that people act as much from their own accepted ideals as they do from the false sense of power gathered from the submissive partner. The controlling partner typically accepts his/her own thoughts and values as true, and acts as if these ideals are actually what?s best for the other partner, whether it is or not. The partner experiencing the controlling behavior does not enjoy the benefit to freely make choices without experiencing feelings of fear and threats of emotional or financial loss. The concept of ownership is a control mechanism that not only prevents a partner from standing up and confronting the offensive behavior of the other, but instills fear of a violent reprisal. Paradoxically, that same fear keeps the submissive from leaving the relationship.

It is difficult for many to admit they want to possess or ?own? their partner or spouse. The topic of ownership invites concealment and can be described as sharing a cell in marital prison. Ownership leaves an individual with an inconvenience of a peculiar misery and if allowed to grow unchecked, it works like a slow poison to their sense of self and individuality.

Kenneth Branagh in Talks for Jack Ryan Reboot

Let?s be honest ? at this point, the next entry in the Jack Ryan franchise is strictly hypothetical. Despite having a star (Chris Pine), a new re-write from David Koepp (on a script that has passed from Adam Cozen to Anthony Peckham then back to Cozen then to Steve Zaillian, who then dropped it, leaving it to Koepp), and a possible new director, this project has been talked about (with Pine attached) since 2009. Combine that with reported financial cutbacks and an apparent disconnect between what everyone wanted from the script, it?s a miracle we?re even still talking about this film.

But perhaps Kenneth Branagh is a miracle man. Vulture reports that Paramount is looking to Branagh to helm the feature, just a week after Jack Bender (who had been attached to direct the film for many months) kicked the bucket on the project and dropped out. While the official position was that he had to do it because of scheduling conflicts with a SyFy project, we can put two and two together ? if a SyFy project looks better than the rebirth of a former blockbuster franchise, yeah, your franchise probably has some serious issues.

Vulture backs that up, saying that they ?hear that Bender had tired of the endless development born of creative loggerheads over the direction of the film. Pine wanted to make a character-driven espionage movie. The producer, Lorenzo di Bonaventura, wanted to make Jack Ryan into an action movie. Paramount executives wanted to make it a thriller.? Yeah, that?s not going to work out.

At the center of that? The many-hands-in-the-pot script, last worked on by Koepp. However, despite all those demands, Vulture also says that they were ?told that just this week, a few days after Bender?s departure to work on his SyFy pilot Rewind, Koepp turned in a draft that attempts to synthesize everyone?s demands. Unlike previous films like The Hunt for Red October and Clear and Present?Danger, which were adaptations of actual, Tom Clancy novels, the new story of Jack Ryan, we?re told, is not. Instead, it?s a prequel that shows Ryan?s beginnings, but is hardly canonical. It is set in the present day, without the dated Cold War geopolitics.? We?ve long known that the film would not be based on an existing Clancy novel, and obviously the casting of Pine points to a young Ryan, but at least everyone still seems clear on those points? That has to count for something?

Branagh recently worked some magic with Thor, so perhaps the director, still best known for his many Shakespearean adaptations, can do something similar with this beleaguered property. I?m not holding my breath, but I?ve been wrong before.

Afterward, everyone milled around on the plaza, ducking between the tri-corner hats and the pink banners, and trying to tease out what had happened in there. My sense is that we saw only a part of what the justices were really thinking today. We heard Roberts and Kennedy expressing doubts about each side of the argument. But we didn?t get to hear them think aloud about what it actually means to strike down a monumental act of congress. We can assume that is weighing on some of the justices, nonetheless. The other thing we didn?t hear much about today was case law. Justice Stephen Breyer pointed out more than once that the justices weren?t there to debate whether or not they liked the bill. But it may be worth counting up the references to forced gym memberships, cellphone purchases, and broccoli mandates, and tallying them up against references to actual court cases. That?s either because the mandate is so unprecedented that precedent doesn?t matter. Or, because precedent just doesn?t matter.

QuasiVegan: My Mother's Brain Cancer

It's been over a year since my Mother's DX of a brain tumor. I just wrote this article for the LDN Research Trust in the UK. It's a first draft, but I thought I'd share with you some of what's been going on. I was limited to 1500 words, so I had to leave out some details. Plus, I'm no writer, so I'm going turn this over to someone who is before publication. I don't have a title for it.

Begin story:

I was diagnosed with a stage four glioblastoma [brain cancer] in February of last year [2011]. After a full course of chemo and radiation, in mid November, I learned about an inexpensive prescription medication, low dose naltrexone. Prior to starting this medication, I was deteriorating. I required a walker and could go only short distances. I had significant memory loss. With all the standard treatment, I was given 10 months to live. The average prediction is 14 months, even after excision, 3.2 cm of tumor remained. After I learned about and obtained a script for low dose naltrexone I gradually regained my ability to walk normally, without a walker, my thinking became clearer. In short, I regained function. ? Laura Arasmo, RN

On the morning of Saturday, 12 February, 2011, my Mother was working on her nursing notes and then she lost consciousness briefly and was very disoriented. She dialed 911.

The surgeon excised what he could of a 5.4 cm tumor on Monday, 14 February. She has a grade IV Glioblastoma brain tumor (GBM).

The standard of care for her GBM is to wait about 4-6 weeks after surgery and then take oral chemo Temodar (temozolomide) for 42 days while taking six weeks of radiation, five days a week. You continue to take temozolomide for six months, five days a month.

Apparently in about 50% of of patients Temodar (temozolomide) extends life, the quality of life it extends is questionable. I say about 50% because it depends on the activity of the MGMT/AGT gene.

This excerpt from Wiki explains: The therapeutic benefit of temozolomide depends on its ability to alkylate/methylate DNA, which most often occurs at the N-7 or O-6 positions of guanine residues... In some tumors, epigenetic silencing of the MGMT/AGT gene prevents the synthesis of this enzyme, and as a consequence such tumors are more sensitive to killing by temozolomide...

From what I?ve gathered, 45-50% of the population have ?silencing of the MGMT/AGT gene? and temozolomide is more effective and the others don?t gain much benefit from it, but boy do they suffer from the chemo! Our Chinese Medicine practitioner really wanted her to get the MGMT test done and I pulled out all the stops to make it happen. Mom?s oncologist said that whether or not she?s got the silenced gene, the only thing she could do was take temozolomide as the first line no matter where she went for treatment, even if it test result showed that temozolomide provided little to no benefit. Lovely.

The first thing I addressed with Mom was attitude. Mom has never been a positive person, she tends towards negative and then labels negative ?realistic?. I said to Mom, ?Doctors are not omniscient, so we can at least be neutral in our attitude if positive is too much of a stretch.? This worked.

Before chemo and radiation began, and almost until the end of seven months of chemo, Mom was taking Dexamethasone, a steroid to keep the swelling down and Kepra to prevent seizures. During this time, all I could do was make the most nutrient dense foods for her I could think of, Super Critical 200 Billion probiotics, and super green food with digestive enzymes. Gut health is extremely important. I also gave her the best vitamins and herbs I could think of. Fortunately I had a good handle on nutrition before this happened.

Mother and I belong to a small, yet world wide community of followers of Meher Baba. I got an email about a man named John in our faith who lives in North Carolina. He?s a Chinese Medicine Herbalist and Acupuncturist who is extremely familiar with Glioblastomas of all things. He sent the different herbs and protocol to get Mom on before starting chemo, during and after. John explained that what the various vitamins and herbs do was protect Mom?s DNA from the damage from chemo and boost her immune system, as well as other mechanisms that are too detailed to explain (something about down-regulate VEGF expression). He also had her remove all sugar/sweets, except a little maple syrup in coffee. Cancer loves sugar!

During first six weeks of everyday chemo and five day a week radiation, Mom faired pretty well. She didn?t even get a cold even though she was exposed to my daughter?s cold.

After the first six weeks, Mom began the once a month temozolomide, she was still taking the other prescription drugs and still on the herbs and vitamins too. Her MRIs showed no progression.

Near the end of the seven months of chemo, Mom weaned herself off of Dexamethasone by taking it down literally a sliver a day, she?s extremely sensitive to steroids. She also stopped taking Kepra because she didn?t like the way it made her feel. Her MRIs were looking good. However, the seven months of chemo caused her bowels to stop working for a little while (among other bad side effects, such as chemo brain) and she wasn?t eating that much. She was always nauseous. She had two trips to the ER. They did nothing for her.

Mom ended her temozolomide in September. She got an MRI in on 3 October: no progression. By the end of October, however, Mom was falling apart. She could barely walk, think, or function. Because her tumor is in the left parietal lobe, her right side was affected the most. It felt like it belonged to someone else and it was heavy.

In early November things were looking bleak. She wanted no more standard of care. The family started emailing back and forth about hospice coming over to the house and various things. She bought a cremation package from the Neptune Society.

I prayed to God on 8 November 2011, ?I can?t do anything and I?m helpless and hopeless. If it is Your wish to help her, please do so. I hand her over to You, come what may.? It was a sincere prayer from the core of my being.

The next day, Mom received just a short email from a friend saying that we should check out Low Dose Naltrexone accompanied by a link. Mom didn?t have any strength to look into it, but she forwarded it to me. I felt that this was important and I got on the phone with our good friend since 1972, a licensed MD but he?s retired. Being a former ER doctor, he was familiar with Naltrexone as well as other opioid antagonists, but he still had to research it. Within 9 days Mom had the LDN from Skip?s Pharmacy. On 18 November, she started on LDN 1.2 mg (it was supposed to be 1.5 but I wrote it down wrong) the first two weeks. Then she started the 3 mg dose for two weeks. Within a few days of taking the 3 mg dose, she improved DRAMATICALLY. Now she?s on 4.5 mg at night.

Before LDN, I had booked a trip for early December to the Meher Spiritual Center in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. This was the unvoiced so-called ?last trip?. Right. Mom had lots of energy, she walked around all over the sanctuary without a walker or cane, and she prepared a lot of her own food!

At the time of this writing it?s the 27th of March 2012. Mom takes 4.5 mg of LDN at bedtime. She?s doing quite well to say the least.

David Gluck, MD stated, ?A nice way to think about LDN is that it is not like any other medication whatsoever. It is a way to strengthen the immune system.?

Another way to strengthen the immune system, so that LDN has more to work with, is through diet, exercise, and attitude. Mom walks about 1.1 miles a day. The original herbs and vitamins helps Mom a lot, but I kicked it up a notch or two and added a few things to help her immune system get even stronger. I also removed some because of the cost and redundancy. Here?s a few of the herbs, nutrient dense foods, or vitamins she takes:

ChlorEssence and Organic Spirulina.
300 mg of Alpha Lipoic Acid by Metabolic Maintenance
B-Complex and other multi-vitamins from whole foods
10 mg Melatonin lozenge at night
Qunol Ultra High Absorption All Natural Liquid CoQ10
Microalgae oil (this is DHA omega 3 from algae, where the fish get it)
Alpha glycerophosphorylcholine (alpha GPC)
10,000 IU D3 with K1 and K2 MK7 and the co-factors of D such as magnesium glycinate and others.
Maple syrup and bicarbonate of soda. This she says has helped her a lot, even though people may think it?s nuts. Within days of starting this her fine motor skills improved on her right side.

The entire list is here: http://tinyurl.com/LDN-Glio

In closing, I want to share a few words of wisdom: Think for yourself. Research everything. Don?t go off half-cocked. If it doesn?t feel right to you, then you will be stressed on some level and increase your cortisol and that won?t help your immune system. Listen to your own gut, not someone else?s.

Adoptive placement question - Adoption.com Forums

It can work! One of our foster placements that went on to be adopted had a similar situation happen. About a couple months after they moved in with their new family, the dad had a great job offer out of state. He was doing some "commuting" at first, would go out there for a couple weeks, then come home for a weekend. The wife stayed behind so the kids could finish out the school year, and they still hadn't sold their house.

If the team approves moving the kids, and having a local worker continue the visits/check-ins, you will most likely have to still come back to your home state/county for the finalization. But I don't know, maybe they can even have that done in your new state? It might depend on the originating state.

Contact the kids' SW and let them know what is going on. I imagine, they will not want to move the kids just because you will be moving. That would not be good for the kids.

Good Luck!

Increase business branding with great postcard printing

The good part about printing is that you don?t need to do anything about it. If you have the requirement for getting something printed you invariably need to call a printer to do the job. You are, of course, not thinking about printing office stationery for internal use. When it comes to printing something for your customers or for business promotion, you cannot but do without a professional printing service. For postcard printing or any other forms of printing, the best job can be done by professional Toronto printing services.

We are now at a time when the number of trees worldwide is dwindling. Gone are those days when people could indiscriminately cut trees down to convert the timber into paper. The paper industry needs to be extremely careful about cutting down trees for making paper. Hence, when you try and deal with one of the Toronto printing services ensure that they are green. How do you manage this? You need to ask them whether they use recycled paper for printing purposes. If the answer is yes you know that these are the people you need to deal with. You can then engage them for postcard printing or brochure printing or catalogue printing or flyer printing or poster printing or any other type of printing.

Do you know that an average office worker consumers about 375 pounds of paper a year? And imagine how many trees would need to be cut so that people worldwide can use this much of paper a year. This is not all. You will be surprised to know that the paper industry is the third largest polluting industry in the world. So, the combination is lethal. On one hand the greenery gets diminished due to cutting of trees and on the other hand pollution increases by the paper making process. If you don?t think about going green now, a time will soon come when you will be forced to do so. Hence, it is important that you identify one of the green Toronto printing services now and make them your long term printing partner.

You should only get into postcard printing when it is important. Postcards, by the way, are excellent ways to reach out to your customers. You can create those small postcards that contain nothing but some social message with your organization?s name printed somewhere on it. This will be a huge brand building exercise for your organization. You can also create large postcards printed where you boldly advertise your products and services. This will not only help you build your brand but also explicitly make your customers look forward to dealing with you. But keep one point in mind ? no matter what type of postcard printing you get done, ensure you deal with one of the green Toronto printing services.

It is not difficult to find green Toronto printing services for postcard printing. Look around in the market and you should be able to finalize someone who can do a great job for your organization.

Roku Android app is a useful complement to your TV viewing

Nowadays, you don?t need someone to build a better TV remote, you just need a better app. The Roku app provides the benefits of a more useful remote control for the Roku and you can download it for free from the Google Play Store.

After the download, just enter the Roku username and password you used to sign-up for the service. As long as your Android device and your Roku reside on the same Wi-Fi network, you?re good to go. The app will begin searching for Roku devices as soon as you?ve logged in. The app found my Roku 2 XD in seconds and the pairing of the app to the Roku device worked without a hitch.

Controlling the Roku was simple, far easier than the little remote that came with the Roku box. You?ll see the same keys on the app as the physical remote but they are bigger and easier to tap. In addition, the app features one-touch access to the Roku home screen, which includes all of your subscribed channels, and the Roku channel store where you can sign up for more. What?s great about these tabs is the ability to scout out new and existing channels without interrupting what you are currently watching. My only complaint: With a touch-screen you do miss out on the tactile feedback a physical remote control provides, so you?ll need to glance down at your Android to see what key you?re tapping.

I had initially thought that the app would also greatly improve typing by using the Android?s virtual keyboard rather than the hunt-and-peck of typing on a TV-style interface with a remote. And while the app does add that capability and does it well, this doesn?t improve your life much because Roku designed the interface for almost no typing, mostly it?s just moving up, down, right, and left as you scroll through shows and movies.
