Todd Palin Endorses Newt Gingrich, but Does Anyone Care? (ContributorNetwork)

COMMENTARY | Take a breath everyone. International Business Times reported that Todd Palin has endorsed Newt Gingrich. I know -- for many undecided voters a high-profile endorsement such as this is sure to help them make up their mind to not vote for Mitt Romney after all. And, in case it helps, my brother's next-door neighbor's cousin's uncle is also voting for Gingrich.

It's hard to imagine a less newsworthy story than Todd Palin making an endorsement. The same effect could be achieved by grabbing the next person to walk down the sidewalk and asking them. Todd Palin is a nobody is the grand scheme of politics. In fact, his wife isn't much better these days -- but she's at least keeping any endorsement to herself. Well, that is until she can turn it into a book or speaking tour.

Now, don't get me wrong: I have nothing personal against Todd Palin -- or Sarah for that matter. It's just that I don't think a public announcement by either makes a bit of difference. It's hard to imagine that there is a whole bunch of voters sitting at home wondering just who Todd Palin is going to vote for in order to make up their own mind. It would be nice if voters would study the candidates and come to a conclusion based upon an educated process. That's asking a lot of a nation that barely bothers to go to the polls in the first place.

I'm personally on the Jon Huntsman bandwagon. I don't think it's going to be a long trip -- unfortunately -- but I like the guy and I like what he's talked about. I like the fact that Huntsman knows the Chinese, he's educated, articulate, and will adopt a more even-keel bipartisan approach than any other candidate standing on the stage.

I'm glad the former First Husband of Alaska didn't pick someone like Ron Paul -- that would be a recipe for disaster. It's not the Paul is wrong on the issues, because he's right on many. But his followers are so fanatical that they've forgotten the rights of others to disagree, and that's a fundamental right of all Americans -- especially during an election year. Need proof? Check the comments below in a day or two.

I need a news story for tomorrow: Who's your sister-in-law's aunt's neighbor endorsing?
