Mancini warns Man City players title race isn't over

Roberto Mancini challenged Manchester City to finish the job after a win over Manchester United that left his side just two wins away from the Premier League crown.

A 1-0 win over United saw City return to the top of the table on goal difference, and maximum points from their remaining games at Newcastle and at home to QPR will almost certainly seal the club's first title since 1968.

However as Manchester City's fans and players celebrated after a raucous title decider at Eastlands hyped as the biggest match in Premier League history, Mancini's eyes remained firmly on the prize.

"It is not finished," Mancini warned his players after Vincent Kompany's header clinched a famous win. "If we think it is finished, we will be making a big mistake."

"It is important that we are on the top now but it is more important to be there after May 13."

If City win their final two games, Manchester United would only be able to overhaul their bitter rivals by racking up big victories over Swansea and Sunderland. City's goal difference now stands at plus eight.

Monday's triumph capped a remarkable turnaround in the championship race, which appeared to be done and dusted as recently on April 8 when United went eight points clear after City's defeat at Arsenal.

But a disastrous run of results from United which has seen them take only four points from a possible 12 following one win, two defeats and a draw means the destiny of the title is now back in City's hands.

Mancini warned his players that United's stumble illustrated how quickly fortunes can change as they steeled themselves for their final two tests.

"Football is crazy," Mancini said. "It is important to always believe in yourself when you have a bad moment.

"We were on the top for 28 games and I think we deserve another chance.

"But in two games, anything can happen.

"It is enough for my players that they remember six weeks ago and we were four points ahead of United. In two games we lost everything. Up to now, we have done nothing."

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson had earlier been embroiled in a spectacular touchline bust-up with Mancini which saw the two managers need to be separated by the fourth official and staff from both clubs.

The pair clashed after Ferguson took exception to a rough challenge on Danny Welbeck by City hardman Nigel De Jong. Welbeck later hobbled away from Eastlands with his leg in a protective boot.

"He was out on that touchline the whole game haranguing the referee, the fourth official and the linesmen," Ferguson said of Mancini.

"The minute I come off the bench for a bad tackle by De Jong on Welbeck, he was out again. He can't have it both ways.

"He's been complaining about referees this season but he won't be complaining tonight that's for sure."

Ferguson had no complaints with Monday's defeat however and said his side were paying the price for blowing leads of 3-1 and 4-2 in their 4-4 draw with Everton at Old Trafford on April 22.

"You can look back at all sorts of games but you've got to look at the Everton one," he said.

"That was a ridiculous performance for the last seven minutes to lose two goals. That's maybe cost us the league."

United legend Gary Neville said Ferguson was now faced with the "worst nightmare" of losing the title on goal differenece.

"I know -- I've been in that changing room for 20 years -- it's his worst nightmare," Neville told Sky Television.

"Losing a championship on goal difference is what he always talks about, every single season.

"In January, in February, in March, whatever month it is going for a championship, he will say if you're 1-0, 2-0 up, 'score three, score four'.

"You never know whether it's going to get to goal difference.

"It is his worst nightmare."

Hysterectomy not tied to greater depression risk

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Women suddenly thrust into "surgical menopause" by hysterectomy don't have more severe mood symptoms than women going through gradual, natural menopause, a new study suggests.

Researchers who followed nearly 2,000 middle-aged women for 10 years found that those who had hysterectomies, with or without ovary removal, were as likely as women who went through natural menopause to experience depression or anxiety -- and for all women, those symptoms declined steadily within a few years.

"At least among women in midlife... mood symptoms don't seem to be a worry to take into consideration when making treatment decisions around hysterectomy and oophorectomy," said the study's lead author Carolyn Gibson, a researcher in the Department of Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh.

Although past studies have shown a link between hysterectomy and risk for depression, Gibson and her fellow researchers say it's still hard to tell whether the procedure is to blame.

Also unknown is whether the symptoms of surgically-induced menopause are any different from those of women who go through menopause naturally.

Gibson told Reuters Health the topic is important, because hysterectomies are very common.

About 600,000 women in the United States have their uterus removed during a hysterectomy every year, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The researchers say between 55 percent and 80 percent of women who undergo hysterectomy also have their ovaries removed -- a procedure known as oophorectomy.

Because a woman's ovaries generate estrogen, removing them induces menopause almost immediately.

Whether natural or induced, the change in a woman's hormone levels leading up to menopause, and in the years immediately afterward, often contributes to a range of symptoms, from anxiety and depression to insomnia and hot flashes.

To see whether a quick transition to menopause through surgery changes women's experience of the associated symptoms, Gibson's team turned to a database containing information on women's progression to, and through, the process.

They tracked about 2,000 women who were between 42 and 52 years old in 1996 and 1997, and were followed for more than ten years.

Over that period, 1,793 of the women went through menopause naturally, 76 had an elective hysterectomy and 101 had an elective hysterectomy and their ovaries removed.

All of the women were premenopausal at the beginning of the study and scored about the same on a scale that measures depression.

That scale goes from zero to 60 and, with higher scores representing more severe depression. A person with a score below 16 is not considered to be depressed.

For all three groups of women, depression scores decreased from the time they entered menopause to the end of the study period, and at about the same rates.

For those going through natural menopause, scores fell from 8.6 to 7.8. Those who had a hysterectomy saw their scores fall from 9.37 to 9.08, those who also had their ovaries removed went from 10.96 to 8.91.

Overall, the study shows depression symptoms in women who had a hysterectomy "declining in a very similar way as women who had a natural menopause," said Ellen Freeman, a research professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.

Freeman, who was not involved with the new study, told Reuters Health that it's important to know that the new study does not mean women will not be depressed after menopause -- just that the symptoms do decrease, and at about the same rate among women in each group.

Gibson and her colleagues write in the journal Obstetrics & Gynecology that this suggests symptoms of depression and anxiety improve as women enter their postmenopausal years.

The authors note, however, that the results may not be applicable to the general population, such as those with a history of mood disorders.

LOS ANGELES (AP) ? Court records show Martin Lawrence has filed for divorce from his wife of nearly two years.

The actor-comedian cited irreconcilable differences in his filing Wednesday. He and Shamicka Lawrence married in July 2010.

The couple dated for years and have two daughters together, ages 9 and 11. The 47-year-old star of "Big Momma's House" and the sitcom "Martin" is seeking joint custody of the children.

The filings state the couple separated last week and they have a prenuptial agreement.

The divorce was first reported Monday by celebrity website TMZ.

Who Stole the Moon is a lovely, sleepy tale for iPad, perfect for bedtime about a boy who is worried that the moon has been stolen when he can?t see it out his bedroom?s skylight one evening before bed.

Concerned, he leaves his home to go ask the nocturnal animals if they had stolen the moon to no avail, but is led in the right direction to Owl, who has the correct answer and is able to calm this young boy.

This is a charming story, nicely written in a style reminiscent of traditional folktales that adults will enjoy as much as children will. I also really like how this app offers a little educational material along with this sweet, simple story, explaining about nocturnal animals and about how the moon can hide behind clouds. The illustrations are nicely crafted as well with a good use of color, especially the sapphire blue chosen to represent the sky that looks especially nice against the back-lit iPad.

This book also contains an impressive number of languages to choose from, each including its own language specific narration and text, also allowing for narration or included sounds to be turned off individually as well ? always a nice touch.

I have enjoyed meeting each animal introduced within this story, including cute details children enjoy such as a fox playing with her cubs, badgers eating cat food, or a mole shopping for worms to make tea. Each animal also has its own theme song that can be accessed within the story section itself or in a separate dedicated section.

This app includes some fun interactive elements as well as four activities that are included, and although they are pretty typical of extras found among children?s apps, I admire their quality in terms of illustrations used and very nice music included within.

There is a memory game section involving the turning over of tiles in order to create pairs. Nice varieties of this type of game are included, each with its own distinct style of cards that need to be flipped, such as one shape per card, a specific number of shapes per tile creating a nice nod towards subsidizing as well as charming insect drawings, each game including 12 cards to flip over.

Sixteen smaller cards can also be included within a game, here involving animals or fun monster and space themes, allowing children to play memory in a way that is a little more challenging.

The final section includes 36 cards to look under to try to match three cards this time instead of two. This change increases the difficulty level nicely, including the insect motif as well as simple sketches all in the color red, really adding to the amount of detail one must look at in these tiles when flipped over to differentiate each other. Some simple solid color tiles are included as well that contain a lovely marbled water-color look, also seen throughout this app as are perfectly imperfect textures found within this well-done application.

An arcade-style is included where one lights up randomly flying fireflies with a tap. This game is nicely challenging yet avoids over stimulation with the included gentle lullaby-type music. It is a nice touch that the background changes with a selection of earthy green backdrops ? great for replay value.

In another area of this app, sixteen puzzles are included, each broken into 25 or 64 pieces which perform like classic jigsaw puzzles, each including a lot of game play. I like the audible click heard when the pieces are fitted together, but I think these lengthy puzzles should make available the reference image seen when choosing a puzzle for children who need a little help because no other hints are offered.

A finger-painting section is available which includes 16 blank sketches than need to be filled in with color. A variety of brush strokes are offered, creating interesting designs with either a tap or a drag of a finger. There is a rainbow of colors to choose from, including four different shades of each color ? all really nice choices that combined with the unique brushes, create an effect closer to a painting experience, possibly with an airbrush, than simply scribbling.

Although it is interesting that the paint brush point varies with every tap, it would be nice to select the point size as well as to create details more precise if one so wishes. It would also be nice to have an ?undo? button, but the eraser can help fix small mistakes that children feel they may have made coloring in these pictures. I would also like to see a solid line be able to be drawn. As of now, only series of dots is allowed.

A section also exists of the animal songs found within the pages of this story. I like that a separate section exists as these songs, nicely done, are also a little lengthy and takes me out of the story a bit to play them while reading the book. Each song can be listened to or sung with the aid of lyrics that appear sentence-by-sentence in time to the music. This prompt may be enough for older children to sing along but new readers may need more help from an adult as this method is less than true karaoke-style in which each word is highlighted when it is time to be sung.

I do like, however, how each song contains the text that is sung as well as illustrated with simple drawings that correspond to each tune. Parents may need to explain the vintage phonograph used to play these songs, complete with horn, record spinning and the crackling that can be heard when switching between songs ? other nice details of this section.

I have enjoyed Who Stole the Moon and recommend this app as a very nice bedtime story choice for toddlers and preschool age children. I look forward to the new apps that WindyPress will develop in the future.
